Our world is filled with things we have to do.
Even when we try to keep things simple, depending on the day or hour,
life can still get chaotic.
Keeping your eyes on Jesus helps if we can keep our focus.
Many years ago, I was concerned about many things.
Jesus showed me His hands in a cupped position, holding me and protecting me.
That was a comforting vision and I have thought of it often.
It still can be overwhelming when things come up that demand attention
or are emotionally draining.
Since we are made in the image of God, we also have the emotions that He has.
Jesus was a bit frustrated with the disciples when he told them,
Can you not pray with Me one hour?
He was angry at the money changers when He overthrew the tables.
So our emotions are not a bad thing. We struggle with them, they are a part of us.
And, sometimes we feel overwhelmed.
There was fear with Esther when she had to go before the King
and the result could be death.
When Mordecai refused to bow to Haman.
We think Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were so strong and courageous,
but likely, they were a bit concerned
when they were going to get thrown into the fiery furnace.
The Bible is filled with stories of characters who were afraid and overwhelmed.
Jonah, afraid of being made a fool of, so he tried to run away from God.
Abraham afraid of being killed, so he lied about Sarah being his wife.
Jeremiah being lowered into the pit of mire was less than pleased with his predicament.
Job, Balaam, Joseph, Hannah, Samson and many others experienced human emotions in their struggles.
Paul seemed to have been less of a human and more in tune with God
as he rejoiced and praised God when he was imprisoned.
He, himself said, “I have learned…”
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned,
in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Philippians 4:11
That means, he had to learn this. We all are striving to learn and grow.
While we can beat ourselves up for things, remembering that we are learning
can be beneficial for our relationship with Jesus.
Allowing ourselves to receive God’s grace and help in our times of need.
It’s alright. We can’t do it all just like we’re supposed to.
Being humble is a good thing and then, letting that rest, in Jesus,
handing all the shortcomings over is okay. It’s good. It’s what God wants us to do.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed:
lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2
Scriptural References:
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:
for My strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities,
that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:2
