Palm Sunday

Jesus’ Entry into Jerusalem

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9

Now when they drew near Jerusalem,
and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives,
then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them,
“Go into the village opposite you,
and immediately you will find a donkey tied,
and a colt with her.
Loose them and bring them to Me.
And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say,
‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

All this was done that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
“Tell the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
They brought the donkey and the colt,
laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.
And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road;
others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
Therefore the people,
who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb
and raised him from the dead,
bore witness.
For this reason the people also met Him,
because they heard that He had done this sign.

Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives,
the whole multitude of the disciples began
to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice
for all the mighty works they had seen, saying:
“‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”

And when He had come into Jerusalem,
all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”
So the multitudes said,
“This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves,
“You see that you are accomplishing nothing.
Look, the world has gone after Him!”

And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd,
“Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

But He answered and said to them,
“I tell you that if these should keep silent,
the stones would immediately cry out.”

This is the beginning of Holy Week,
the week our Savior, Jesus, was crucified
The beginning of the process for His Crucifixion
the preparation of what He did for us
Dying on the cross and the Resurrection
But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Foot Washing of the Disciples’ feet:
Then He came to Simon Peter.
And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“What I am doing you do not understand now,
but you will know after this.”
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
