Most of us, when we think of strength and weakness, we might consider a big, burly guy with lots of muscles and a wimpy gangly guy without muscle tone
When we imagine Jesus on the cross, he might’ve looked weak by the world’s standards, to some He did
And saying,
Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save Thyself.
If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Matthew 27:40
Just like when Jesus could have saved Himself,
Jesus knew He had to do what He had to do
He scolded Peter when Peter tried to protect Him:
Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath:
the cup which My Father hath given Me, shall I not drink it? John 18:11
It shows great strength when you hold your tongue
It also is harder to refrain from taking vengeance when we are angry
Jesus told Paul, My strength is made perfect in weakness
Jesus can reign over any situation
Jesus can help calm you from deep within
And, letting Jesus rule is going to allow His strength to be made perfect
And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:
for My strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities,
that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
It is an act of submission to Jesus, that is, letting Him take over,
doing things that He asks you to do, that are against human nature
It is not easy to lay down your strength before Him
and become weak so He can be strong
That is an act of faith, an act of trust
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God,
and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16
Considering that we are God’s temple, it is an act of submission and obedience to let Him reign in us
We don’t have to
How much are you willing to hand over? Some? or more?
Consider that
If we truly are become weak that He may be made strong,
one meaning is that His way is honored
We can step aside and give Him the driver’s seat
His strength being made perfect is a concept that cannot be easily grasped
Accepting that we are weak in Him, that without Him we can do nothing:
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
So, our weakness is not exactly weakness, it is our strength submitted to Him
It means we step out of the way
It means we lay our strength at His altar
We become weak so He can be strong
We let Him rule and be in charge of the situation or, ideally, of our lives
Our mortal strength is futile
