Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth.
Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. Romans 14:4
Whose servants are we?
Who decides if we stand or fall?
Who do we aim to please?
Jesus.
Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Ephesians 6:6-7
That means when no one is looking and no one will ever know,
we still do the right thing that we know would please God.
This knowledge actually makes life simpler. Here’s how:
We have other people that think we should do this or do that.
We are free in Christ.
Obligation is a heavy yoke, a heavy burden.
Jesus said, Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:
and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:29
As long as we are serving the Lord, we are free.
The burden comes when other people want us to serve them.
They are manipulative, have expectations of what we should do for them and they are often demanding.
We need to be in tune with the Lord because some people will rob you of time you need to rest
so you can fulfill what God wants you to do.
We serve everyone in the Lord, but with His wisdom and guidance.
Things can get complicated if we have too many masters. Who is in charge?
The answer is always Jesus.
You are not their robot.
You are a living being created by God for His pleasure, let Him enjoy spending time with you.
Jesus is our most important relationship.
If you dedicate time to Jesus, to spend with Him, that is important.
That does not mean you neglect your duties or there are hard and fast rules.
How you spend time with God is between you and Him.
Make sure to ask Him and then honor what He tells you.
Things will come up such as when your ox falls into that hole.
That dedicated time will likely begin as a sacrifice by you unto the Lord,
and then it will become the most important part of your day.
Pleasing God will help you keep balanced.
