And take heed to yourselves,
lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting,
and drunkenness, and cares of this life,
and so that day come upon you unawares.
For as a snare shall it come on all them
that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Watch ye therefore, and pray always,
that ye may be accounted worthy to escape
all these things that shall come to pass,
and to stand before the Son of man. Luke 21:34-36
Did He say pray?
He did
Pray that you are worthy
Pray always
Watch and pray
that ye may be accounted worthy
to escape all these things
that shall come to pass
and to stand before the Son of man
We know prayer is powerful
But we ought to very much consider what Jesus is saying here
Watch and pray that you may be counted worthy
That means there is work He has to do in us,
for each one of us it is different
We all have failings
To be counted worthy when we already accept that He is our Savior,
isn’t that all taken care of?
Apparently not
Jesus is instructing us here to watch and pray
specifically for the end as that is what He is talking about
It goes along with the instruction to carry your cross daily,
To do all the commands He has given us
Forgive so you can be forgiven
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and strength
and to love your neighbor as yourself
Love your enemies
Keep your lamps filled with oil and many more
Nobody can do this for you
This is between you and Jesus
Nobody can tell you where your deficits are, only Christ Himself
Watch and pray that you may be found worthy
Seek Him as to what exactly that means for you
Scriptural References:
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Luke 9:23
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:30-31
And when ye stand praying, forgive, i
f ye have ought against any:
that your Father also which is in heaven
may forgive you your trespasses.
But if ye do not forgive,
neither will your Father which is in heaven
forgive your trespasses.
Mark 11:25-26
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend,
hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great,
and ye shall be the children of the Highest:
for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Luke 6:35
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins,
which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
And at midnight there was a cry made,
Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
And the foolish said unto the wise,
Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
But the wise answered, saying,
Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you:
but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came;
and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage:
and the door was shut.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour
wherein the Son of man cometh.
