There are many promises in the bible.
For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen,
unto the glory of God by us. 2 Corinthians 1:20
However, many of them have conditions.
That is not what we want to hear.
That is almost like works.
Good works, God’s works, but many, if not all, of the promises are conditional.
Romans 8:1 has such a condition:
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Promise, in this case, even the promise has a condition.
Promise: There is therefore now no condemnation
to them who are in Christ Jesus.
Condition 1: to them who are in Christ Jesus
Condition 2: who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit
Let’s look at Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Promise: The Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Both of the conditions are in the previous verse: This promise is a continuation of those who are in Christ Jesus and walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit.
With those thoughts in mind, we cannot just grab promises
and use them as we wish, all things must be done with God
and in humility to God and in obedience and reverence to God.
That way, it is solid in God and our faith is strengthened
because we know we prayed according to God’s will.
And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that,
if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:
And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask,
we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. 1 John 5:14-15
Promise: He hears us and we will have everything we ask
Condition: If we ask according to His will
Our Lord and Savior followed the leading of the Father in everything He did, every step He made, and every word He spoke.
We should do the same as much as we are able.
When you go to pray before the throne,
do you pray a scripture that you know you have seen God work in that way?
that is settled in your heart, that you know He has demonstrated His power? that He has come through for you? Pray that.
You might also want to try seeking Him for another scripture,
or as you’re reading, and you see how He has performed in other situations for His people, see if He will do that for you.
Ask Him.
Praying is not a command to God.
It is a petition. A request.
An honorary plea for the person or thing you are bringing before His throne.
He doesn’t have to do anything.
If it is according to His will, you can be sure whatsoever you ask
will be done for you.
You can also lean on the scriptures you know,
where you have already seen Him work in your life or in the bible,
where He has performed miracles and hold onto whatever it is He gives you.
We also can seek God’s wisdom in our prayers.
He knows His will.
We need wisdom about His will.
Our spirts can be touched by His Holy Spirit to pray according to His will.
While you’re praying, listen for scriptures He might remind you of.
While you’re reading and you have something on your heart,
be listening for what His Holy Spirit may be quickening to you.
Our relationship with God is interactive.
He cares, He’s listening, He is there for us, whatever our petition,
whatever burden we may have on our hearts. He knows already.
He does want us to come boldly before His throne in faith.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Promise: We obtain mercy and find grace to help us
Condition: Come boldly before His throne
The grace and mercy and help is what we need.
The boldness comes because we know He cares and has pity on us.
Let Him joyfully give you promises that you may present them before Him,
in faith, knowing He hears you as He is a God of His word.
Scriptural References:
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth the Father do:
for what things soever He doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
John 5:19
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me,
He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. John 12:49
