We are in the middle of a pandemic
Many churches have been shut down
Unable to gather
We are encouraged in the word by this:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…
and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)
Communion gets put aside in many cases
Take it on your own or if you study or pray with others,
take it with them if you so choose
But take it
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup,
ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. 1 Corinthians 11:26
It is sometimes difficult to understand the spiritual significance
of things we are asked to do
Jesus explained this to His disciples
Some listened, some were offended
Verily, verily, I say unto you,
He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
I am that bread of life.
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven,
that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven:
if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever:
and the bread that I will give is my flesh,
which I will give for the life of the world.
Jesus spoke of His crucifixion
and His life that He knew He was going to give for the world
“The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying,
How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
The Jews did not understand
as they were looking at what He said in a natural sense,
in the way that those who do not have the Holy Spirit
to show them and open their eyes
“Then Jesus said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood,
ye have no life in you.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;
and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood,
dwelleth in me, and I in him.
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father:
so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Jesus told them that He was able to let them partake of Himself,
and eat in a spiritual sense of the very life of God:
This is that bread which came down from heaven:
not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead:
he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
Jesus, the bread from heaven
if any person accept His deity and His ability of Salvation,
That same person shall live forever with Him,
in newness of life in the Kingdom of God
“These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said,
This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it,
he said unto them,
Doth this offend you?
What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up
where he was before?
Woe unto us if we are offended at the words of Christ
That is a time to be humble and to ask Him to show us what He means,
to be offended means they were putting themselves above His words
It is the spirit that quickeneth;
the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you,
they are spirit, and they are life.
But there are some of you that believe not.
“For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not,
and who should betray him.”
It’s interesting: For Jesus knew from the beginning
who they were that believed not
and who should betray Him
Yes, because He is God, He knows all
At the passover, Jesus spoke of communion
As he gave Judas the bread and dipped it in the sop,
then Satan entered into him
and Jesus told him to do what he was going to do quickly
(Mark 14–John 13)
“And he said,
Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
And none of us can understand unless He opens our eyes
It’s a mystery why some eyes are opened and others are not:
From that time many of his disciples went back,
and walked no more with him
The only one left
who did not believe Jesus was who He said He was was Judas
“Then said Jesus unto the twelve,
Will ye also go away?
Then Simon Peter answered him,
“Lord, to whom shall we go?
thou hast the words of eternal life.
And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ,
the Son of the living God.” John 6:47-69
Peter was the rock. He had received the truth and believed it.
We also ought to believe the truth
If we are offended at the idea of Communion,
that is proclaiming the Lord’s death until He come,
the only hope is to put His words above our own
and to ask Him for understanding
If you ask sincerely,
The Holy Spirit will open the eyes of your understanding
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
