Purging

I’m getting rid of things
Moving to a smaller place
Moving makes you do that
Make a choice between what you really like and what you don’t
What is useful or important to you and what is not
Sometimes I have found a little charity inside my selfish heart:
Someone else could surely use this

Some are idols that should be cast aside
Not of worship per se,
but of more importance in my mind than they should be
Others are worthless, cumbersome and just take up space
Purging and cleansing
Finding cob webs and dust that were not obvious…
until they were moved and removed

Do I need this?
Do I really like that?
An emotional attachment to things
Things that are not to be clung to

There is a freedom in purging
There has to be a spiritual significance to this
Jesus had no place to lay his head
Our comforts of the world
can be something that we value more than we should
Perhaps God might call me to work in an orphanage
Or to feed the hungry and put my time in something
that is meaningful to the kingdom
instead of acquiring and housing things,
things that cannot see or hear or speak
I have not always noticed when all of my attention was on these things

So I continue to purge
Letting go of their worldly importance
Let him not go down to take anything out of His house
Remember Lot’s wife
Cleansing
Casting aside
Making more room for God in my life
Realizing the emptiness of things
Purging earthly belongings is a type of cleansing for the soul

  1. Beautiful!
God bless your courageous work of letting go in order to free up time, resources, and energy for whatever he might put in front of you.
