Proverbs 18:19 says: A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
Jesus wants us to reconcile
While sometimes it seems impossible
His power of restoration is insurmountable
The separation of the brethren is one thing He is not fond of
One who separates the brethren is actually mentioned
as one of the 7 things the Lord hates (Proverbs 6:16-19)
He makes it very clear in the sermon on the mount when He says
if your brother has ought against you, leave your gift at the altar
and first be reconciled to your brother (Matthew 5:23&24)
In other words, I don’t want to hear from you when your heart is not pure,
don’t go and treat your brother like dirt or let an offense come between you and them and then come to me like you’re a little angel.
Get it right. Then come back to Me.
Jesus also wants us to love our enemies, (Matthew 5:44&45)
so even if the person is not a brother in Christ,
He expects us to treat them as such and show love and kindness to them
no matter what happened.
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 1 John 4:20
We are responsible for our actions
If you say that you love God and hate your brother,
you are a liar and the truth is not in you. (1 John 2:4)
The only way to please the Lord is to love
God is love.
Speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15)
Do not be like a clanging cymbal or sounding brass (1 Corinthians 13:1)
be the sweet aroma to the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 2:15)
Lay down your thoughts and feelings before the cross and be reconciled
