And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence,
then was Haman full of wrath. Esther 3:5
There are some people who like to be the center of attention,
others who like to control.
Some people have both elements.
They want you to pander to them.
They can be found anywhere and everywhere.
It’s almost like a quest for them to get you to think more of them than is natural.
Some call it arrogance.
They look to others to give them credence.
Naturally, we like some people better than others
and not everyone is going to like you.
We hopefully learn that sooner rather than later.
Some people talk about things you might not care about
and you don’t even know what to say because it is of little interest to you.
Trying to be giving of your time and attention can be difficult.
And, still, with most people, there is a way to get along with them.
Haman was a very wicked man and not everyone is that wicked.
Their intentions may just be self-serving, but the spirit is similar to Haman.
They want to force others toward the adoration of themselves.
I’ve noticed this especially with those who are controlling.
They want to run things, even when they are not the boss.
They might even go so far as to try to control you when it is not their place.
Under the guise of being helpful, perhaps.
It is that same spirit Haman had toward Mordecai,
to have others pay them homage.
Be gracious but only serve the Lord.
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again;
and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest:
for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Luke 6:35
Make every effort to get along with others as much as is possible, as Paul says,
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you,
live peaceably with all men. Romans 12:18
Never compromise by elevating anyone above their rightful position.
Refuse to bow, graciously.
