Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee,
because thou hast left thy first love. Revelation 2:4
This was a disappointment Jesus had with the Church of Ephesus.
Most likely, we can see parts of ourselves in the descriptions
of some of the churches that are listed in Revelation.
Some people put themselves into the Church of Philadelphia,
which was the Church Jesus said the best things about.
In true humility, with our flesh,
we likely have disappointed Jesus from time to time
and there are admonitions for each of us
to get back in line with His best for us as we walk with Him.
What did Jesus say to those who have left their first love?
He gave instructions to correct what was lacking
and He gave a warning to them.
The following scripture has the keys of how to rekindle your first love, Jesus:
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent,
and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly,
and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Revelation 2:5
It is up to each of us to go before the throne of God,
to make sure we are using our time well, that we are right with Him,
and to find out whether or not He is pleased with us.
God honors humility before Him.
The kind of humility God honors
is not the same kind that humans consider humility.
Jonah, for example, was not acting in humility before the Lord
when he refused to speak God’s word for fear that he would lose respect.
Humility before the Lord is obedience
and putting your flesh to death as you do His will.
The other thing that God is always mindful of is our fear of Him.
He looks for humility to Him and fear of Him when He looks on our hearts.
Ask yourself if this is true about you:
For all those things hath Mine hand made, and all those things have been,
saith the Lord: but to this man will I look,
even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit,
and trembleth at My word. Isaiah 66:2
Keep your love for Jesus warm.
And, by loving your fellow humans in Jesus’ name,
those you like and those you don’t, you are honoring and loving God.
