Touch not the unclean thing.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord,
and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 2 Corinthians 6:17
The verses before are specifically talking about worshiping other gods.
That opens a big box of ideas
where there are many things that could be considered unclean.
This is not the same message of the vision the Lord gave Peter
where He has cleansed everything.
These scriptures are talking about evil and the world.
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish,
and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish,
and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matthew 5:29-30
Jesus is not talking about cutting off limbs. He is speaking in parables.
He is talking about cutting off sin.
An example might be, don’t go to the bar if you overdrink.
Don’t lie down and cuddle with someone if you might fall into sin.
Not watching movies that have lust.
There are all sorts of things that we can do to keep ourselves from sin.
So it hurts our flesh? We can’t have what we want?
That is what Jesus is trying to teach here.
Do Not Touch the Unclean thing.
Touching it will cause you to stumble.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses,
know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4
In the Old Testament, God often likened His people to being unfaithful to Him.
He accused them of whoring after other gods
of being unfaithful to Him like an adulterer.
In other words, keep God as your first and foremost in importance.
Honor Him in all that you do, every chance you get.
He will also let you know how important you are to Him.
That will be greater than any payment you can imagine.
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath,
he cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:33
