Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Sometimes finding the ability to rest in God can be difficult
He is always there for us,
but the noise and troubles of the world can be so loud
Finding that still, small voice, Jesus’ voice, can take some effort
Effort to rest
Sounds a little odd
How do we get there
and what sort of effort do we need to put forth to get into God’s rest?
John, the disciple, was known to lay his head on Jesus’ chest
He knew Him that well
John knew he wouldn’t be rejected,
that he could trust Jesus to accept him and love him
As we read the Psalms of David, we can see King David found refuge in God
He knew that God kept him from his enemies, that God fought for him
and gave him wisdom on who to battle and when to battle them
God made promises to David that protruded to every part of David’s life,
even when David sinned, God gave him a way of repentance and cleansing
To find our place of rest in God is unique to each of us
We all need to spend time with God,
we all need to read the scriptures,
We can listen, fast, pray, sing, play instruments and many other ways
to strengthen our relationship with God Almighty
Paul wrote, Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17,
remembering that though Paul said it, all scripture is inspired by God
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16
To find our rest in God, it is like searching for the Kingdom of God,
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
And, here is another part of the answer:
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink;
but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Romans 4:17
Seek God and you will find rest for your soul
