Give not that which is holy unto the dogs,
neither cast ye your pearls before swine,
lest they trample them under their feet,
and turn again and rend you. Matthew 7:6
Not giving that which is holy to dogs is a metaphor that Jesus brought up
in The Sermon on the Mount referenced above
Dogs in that time referred to
those people who did not revere what is godly or holy,
who were from other lands, who served other gods
We see that when Jesus talked to the woman who responded to Him,
Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table
For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit,
heard of Him, and came and fell at His feet:
The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation;
and she besought Him that He would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled:
for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
And she answered and said unto Him,
Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.
And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way;
the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out,
and her daughter laid upon the bed. Mark 7:25-30
She had proven herself to Jesus as a true seeker of God,
one who wanted to be a part of His kingdom
She was able to look above the norm and realize who Jesus was
and how He accepted all
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28
A main reason to know the Old Testament
is that both the Old and the New Testament connect
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
God welcomed those peoples from foreign lands if they chose to serve Him:
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you
as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself;
for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt:
I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:34
His mercy extends to all who acknowledge Him as God
