If there is tall grass, there are bound to be snakes.
The grass is a good place for them to find refuge from their predators.
And, there they can lie in wait for their prey.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8
The devil is likened to a serpent or a snake in the Bible.
He is crafty, he is poisonous and sometimes deadly.
He is lurking and ready to devour what he can get ahold of.
There is a reason he was in the form of a snake when he tempted the first humans in the Garden of Eden.
There, he twisted what God said and made it seem to them like he knew more.
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth,
and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:9
The deceiver of the whole world?
If we are honest, we know we have been deceived at some point by him.
Likely, multiple times, because he does not give up.
And, his tactics work. He uses the same ones over and over.
They are all written in the bible.
Many warnings of how to keep clear of deception.
Here are a few:
Love the Truth
Resist the devil and he will flee
Remember Lot’s wife
Having done all, stand
Cast your cares on your Lord
God works all things together for your good
Lead us not into temptation
Deliver us from evil
I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you
Choose this day whom you will serve
My help comes from the Lord
You were born for such a time as this
