Solitude and Isolation

As we go through life
we have many people that come and go into and out of our lives
We have our family
and friends
We have friends that are like family
We have coworkers
We have neighbors
We have vendors or customers,
Classmates,
Teammates,
All sorts of people in all different circumstances

Some are enduring
Some give up
Some we find we just don’t mesh well with after we get to know them better
With some, time doesn’t allow us to fit one more person into our life
even if they are stellar

God is our source
Our provider
The One whom we can trust regarding our people needs

Some of the prophets spent large amounts of time alone
This was not in their control
If they weren’t serving the Lord,
they might have had time to cultivate relationships
and have had more people around them

People can be idols in our lives
We can look to them for comfort
Advice
To help us with different issues
Or tasks
rather than looking to God

God did design us to need each other
He said in Genesis it is not good for man to be alone
I will make an helpmate for him
and in Ecclesiastes, the Preacher said, How can one be warm alone?
You and Jesus, that makes two
to agree with you in prayer,
to meet your needs, whatever they may be
It is good for us to be around other believers
who can help strengthen our faith and our growth in the Lord
But don’t think it strange if you have made a decision to follow Christ
and you find yourself alone or maybe just feeling alone

John was imprisoned on an island
That was where he was then given the Book of Revelation
Paul was isolated at times in jail and in circumstances
Many of the prophets were given times away from others
Ezekiel had to lie on his side for 390 days,
then when he was done with that side,
he had to lie on the other side for another 40 days!
For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity,
according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days:
so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side,
and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days:
I have appointed thee each day for a year. Ezekiel 3:5-6

Moses was called by the Lord to solitude, more than once

Isolation and quiet from other humans can be a part of your walk with God
Seasons and times
Job had his friends, his comforters who were not comforters at all
And his wife who gave him foul advice
Might’ve been better not to have anyone at all
He spoke of being alone and the pain that comes along with it
I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity. Job 7:16

Look to God for your human needs
He is your source
He will bring who you need when you need them
He will bring you friendship
Love,
a listening ear,
someone to rejoice with

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Philippians 4:11

Just like all your needs,
He is your source
and when He calls you to solitude,
that most likely is Him letting you know He wants to spend time with you,
be sensitive to that
It can be easy to feel loneliness,
Once you get in the habit of accepting that He is calling you to Himself,
you will learn to appreciate His call
