Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee. Proverbs 5:15-17
So many people do not seek the Lord for teachings, for understanding of the word. They would rather hear someone else’s interpretation or understanding.
That is our responsibility, to find the treasures of the kingdom, by prayer, by fasting, by study, by spending time with the Lord while we earnestly desire the true riches.
Good teachers are helpful. Not all teachers we like are good teachers and just because someone has a good teaching does not mean we should continually seek their teachings. God wants to feed us. If we let Him, He will ‘give us this day our daily bread’, Matthew 6:11 Jesus is the Bread of Life. He will not leave us empty if we seek Him.
Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face continually. 1 Chronicles 16:11
When the Israelites were fleeing from Egypt, to the Promised Land, God gave them manna every day. They all had to gather it for themselves and their families each day. If they kept it longer than was directed, except the instructions to double up for the Sabbath day, it bred worms and stank. Stinky manna is not good. It’s not good for us to eat and it’s certainly not good for us to share and it’s not the morsels God has for us. His bread or manna or living water is fresh, pristine, and renews us as need be.
God knows what we need to hear. God knows what we are going through. The guy next door, even our mothers or pastors do not know our hearts and our minds and all of our concerns. It is by seeking the Lord that we will be truly satisfied. If the Lord chooses to use a human to help us understand, He is capable of providing that person and will at times do that, but for us to seek humans for our needs, no matter how wonderful that human is, that is not God’s best for us. He is our supply and the One we are to trust in.
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Revelation 2:4
If you’re a new Christian or even an old one, and you have not learned yet to trust in the Lord wholly and completely, start small and let Jesus take over. He will. He will start stripping you of those things and people you are relying on so He can be your One and Only. If you are married, He still wants first place, above everyone and anyone. Let Him teach you by His Holy Spirit what loyalty to Him looks like. Let Jesus teach you what He expects from you. Jesus wants to be our everything and anyone He gives you to walk with you through this life is secondary. He is your supply and He is your source, so get your needs met through Him. It becomes beautiful when you do, as the disappointments become less as we look to Jesus to meet our needs and realize our supply is directly from Him.
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;
but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14
