And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,
and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:4
Lies are everywhere.
Both in the spiritual and in the natural.
There seems to be no getting away from them.
Even the ones who love the truth can get caught in a snare,
at least for a time, until they relinquish their lofty thoughts to the Lord.
If a person wants the truth, they will find it.
If a person loves the truth, God will be faithful.
Some having itching ears. They want to hear what they want to believe.
That is deception.
It is also very common.
The truth is not always easy to love.
Your flesh will argue against it. If you choose to love it, you will bow before it.
It is a humble state to remain in the truth.
Hell is a good example.
Who wants to believe in Hell?
Who wants to defend the Lord to others
who cannot understand why there is a Hell?
Yet, it is our duty to defend the truth.
No matter what the subject, no matter what the cost.
If we do not love the truth, this is what will happen:
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion,
that they should believe a lie: 2 Thessalonians 2:11
God sends deception to them. God Himself sends them a strong delusion.
And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith?
And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit
in the mouth of all His prophets.
And He said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also:
go forth, and do so. 1 Kings 22:22
If people want to believe what they want, who is going to stop them?
Surely not God.
Romans chapter 1 has a few warnings about not loving the truth:
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness
and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; v 18
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them;
for God hath shewed it unto them. v 19
For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: v 20
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God,
neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations,
and their foolish heart was darkened. v 21
And, as we read through the chapter, we arrive at this verse:
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,
God gave them over to a reprobate mind,
to do those things which are not convenient; v 28
Since Jesus is the truth, seeking Him
and choosing to follow Him, the truth,
is a sure way to find the truth and to learn to appreciate it.
He also told us His Holy Spirit would lead us and guide us into all truth:
Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear,
that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. John 16:13
Jesus who is the word will not fail us.
Loving the truth will help us to recognize the truth
and help us to be able to discern deception and error.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me. John 14:6
There is only one way to find the truth and Jesus is it.
