Strong Foundation

Jesus told us how to build a strong foundation.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Matthew 7:24-27
These words were spoken as Jesus concluded the Sermon on the Mount.
All of the foundations are described in the Sermon
contained in Matthew 5-7.
In my opinion, it was the best sermon ever given.
Not sure there was anything left out.
Power-packed with wisdom and instruction from our Lord
across multiple situations that are bound to happen in life.

Building your house on the sand doesn’t work for things of the kingdom,
just like it wouldn’t work for the natural world.
You have to lay a good foundation, in the proper place,
carefully prepare and choose each piece to build with
that it will fit properly and do its job.

A house has a job, that is, to protect you from the elements.
If you don’t take care to build each section properly,
your time will be wasted and the fail could come at a very inopportune time.
Trial and error comes into play as well,
we make mistakes along the way and hopefully learn from them.
We see the breaches in our walls and fortify them as we can.

Our houses symbolize our lives in Christ.
There is a similar metaphor in the word:
Having on the full armor of God
Being prepared always with all the protections described in the word of God.
Building strong foundations and fortifying and maintaining
our spiritual houses as necessary
so that we will be wise and strong in the things of God.
Teaching others and being good examples of our faith
and our dedication to the Lord.
When trials come, with a house built on the Rock,
we may be shaken, but not moved.
Jesus gave us the method whereby which we can be strong in Him:
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a roc

Lord Jesus, help us to heed the instructions
you gave in the Sermon on the Mount to walk with You in Your ways.
Let us absorb what you were trying to teach us
and open all of Your teachings up to us by Your Holy Spirit
Whom You sent to lead us and guide us into all truth.
In your precious name, Amen.
