Prayer is good
Talking to God
Telling Him of your needs
Trusting Him
Caring about others
Fighting battles
All of that is good
Don’t forget to listen
God has much to say, much to teach you
Spending quiet time with Him
Giving Him opportunity to speak
To say what He wants to say
Communication is a two-way street
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 11:15
And He said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.
And, behold, the Lord passed by,
and a great and strong wind rent the mountains,
and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord;
but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake;
but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire:
and after the fire a still small voice.
And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle,
and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave.
And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said,
What doest thou here, Elijah?
And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts:
because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant,
thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword;
and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
1 Kings 19:11-14
Elijah needed to hear from the Lord
God said, Stand upon the mount of the Lord
His life was in danger
He went to a special place to hear from the Lord as instructed
God could have spoken to him anywhere,
but that was an honor to the Lord
Elijah went to the instructed special place
That was an act of obedience
Elijah was quiet and he waited and listened
and then God spoke to him
Our lives are so busy and full now with all sorts of things
We need to take time to listen to God,
to hear direction, to be led by His Spirit
Jesus went away to be with God, to spend time with Him in prayer
These scriptures verify that Jesus was also listening to God:
For I have not spoken of Myself; but the Father which sent Me,
He gave Me a commandment,
what I should say, and what I should speak. John 12:49
I have many things to say and to judge of you: but He that sent Me is true;
and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of Him. John 8:26
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man,
then shall ye know that I Am He, and that I do nothing of Myself;
but as My Father hath taught Me, I speak these things. John 8:28
It becomes natural, it takes patience
God desires to spend time with each of us
Sometimes He speaks without words, but we know what He is telling us
Let God have your undivided attention
He has much to share
