Talents and Obedience

Procrastination, or is it?
Postponing or getting things done?
Putting God off
Discipline
Taking that step
Fear of the unknown
Maybe not fear, just unsurety
Not feeling so confident about something
Taking the leap
Is it just a thought, a good idea,
or is God trying to prompt you to do something?

Sometimes you know,
other times you just have to start walking in that direction
and see if He opens doors, if He makes things more clear
We don’t always know
We can’t always be sure
But the Parable of the Talents reminds us that we need to at least try

Not everyone has a desire to serve the Lord whole-heartedly
We get bogged down by so many things in this world
Some people seem to get things done
Other people are filled with ideas
and they can’t seem to stay afloat or know which way to go
No matter how great the talent, if they are not being used for the Lord,
they will count for nothing when He is considering our deeds

There are lots of time-wasting activities on Earth
We know that our flesh wants what it wants
Some seek after happiness, some are always looking for a party,
friends, a good time
Some aren’t that concerned with using their talents for the Lord
Some seek after money, they’re work-a-holics and love the end result
There are all sorts of fleshly activates that we can be involved in
They can be considered harmless or even beneficial
as we can use them to build relationships in life
and are sometimes able to preach the gospel
It can be hard to choose how to spend our time
We want to be accepted by others and enjoy our life somewhat
We also want to serve the Lord and don’t always remember
that He is the source of our every need

God allows us His grace,
and if He is asking something of us, at some point, He will call us to task
We have to decide how to fit in on Earth, doing God’s will,
how to use our talents for His glory, and how to fulfill our purpose on Earth
We can serve the Lord to our most true capacity, that is,
the level to which we have given our life to the Lord
as we choose to respond to His call on how and when we use our talents

To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak:
I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22

The Parable of the Talents
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country,
who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one;
to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
But he that had received one went and digged in the earth,
and hid his lord’s money.
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh,
and reckoneth with them.
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold,
I have gained beside them five talents more.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant:
thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
He also that had received two talents came and said,
Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold,
I have gained two other talents beside them.
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant,
thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not,
and gather where I have not strawed:
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers,
and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
Take therefore the talent from him,
and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance:
but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 25:14-30
