I’ve given up on trying to destroy the ego.
It seems like it will always be there, as I live on this Earth, no matter what.
The bible says Moses was the most humble man on Earth.
(Now the man Moses was very meek,
above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) Numbers 12:3
A similar honor was given to Noah.
These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9
And God called Job a most upright man:
And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job,
that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man,
one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Job 1:8
How did they do it?
Surely, they didn’t strive for that, to gain honor. It was given to them.
I suspect had they been trying to please God for some honor or title or recognition,
it would have taken away that honor which they had.
Miraiam and Aaron were jealous of Moses.
They thought they were worthy of such honor.
They esteemed themselves highly.
Really? The man who built a golden calf?
They had egos.
God was not pleased with them.
There are surely many lessons in this story.
They were speaking against Moses because he married an Ethiopian woman.
That was what started their whole rant.
And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses
because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married:
for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses?
hath He not spoken also by us?
And the Lord heard it.
(Now the man Moses was very meek,
above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
And the Lord spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam,
Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation.
And they three came out.
And the Lord came down in the pillar of the cloud,
and stood in the door of the tabernacle,
and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
And He said, Hear now My words: If there be a prophet among you,
I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision,
and will speak unto him in a dream.
My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all Mine house.
With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold:
wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and He departed.
Numbers 12:1-10
God was so angry, He struck Miriam with Leprosy.
Moses asked the Lord to remove it and He told him
He would let her have it for a while
What can we learn from this?
Perhaps that we should not elevate ourselves
and not think more highly of ourselves than we ought.
That makes us displeasing to God.
Thinking you are great in God’s sight has the opposite effect.
He teaches us and humbles us as need be.
There is no competition in God’s kingdom.
Our best aim would be to stay close to God,
not compare ourselves to others and remain obedient.
But He giveth more grace.
Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
James 4:6
