The kings in the Old Testament were examples of the present-day church.
Some kings of Israel followed the Lord, some did not.
Some of them destroyed the altars and high places,
some allowed them to remain and let the people sacrifice on them
and worship the idols.
Many times you will read: This person became king
and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord.
Not quite as many times, you will read: This person became king
and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.
The Most Righteous King, Josiah:
And like unto him was there no king before him,
that turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul,
and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses;
neither after him arose there any like him. 2 Kings 23:25
The Most Wicked King, Ahab:
And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him. 1 Kings 16:30
We all have domains, territories, some big, some small.
Some of those domains have great influence, some smaller,
but we all are given a position in the kingdom which is exemplified on Earth.
The Lord also calls us to destroy the idols and the high places of worship.
Reading His word will help you to recognize those.
Ask Him for the strength to tear them down in your life, in your realm.
We humans can and do build idols out of anything.
Anything that we place above the Lord Jesus is idolatry.
Anything.
Jesus is our Lord God and to worship anything else is detestable to Him.
Any form of worship that is to self or another being or entity is idolatry.
Now, back to our time, our lives, our responsibility.
We are to serve the Lord and in our jurisdiction, we have choices,
like did the kings of old in what we allow to go on when we have control.
For some of us, it’s our families, some have larger responsibilities,
some smaller, what music you allow to be played in your home,
what TV shows you allow are some examples.
There are times when we have no control or little control.
The Lord can give you wisdom
about how to deal with each and every situation that comes up.
Wisdom is there for the asking:
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5
Ask Jesus how to tear down those idols.
