And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven,
“Now is come salvation, and strength,
and the kingdom of our God,
and the power of his Christ:
for the accuser of our brethren is cast down,
which accused them before our God day and night.”
Revelation 12:10
He stands before the Lord day and night
Bringing up faults and misgivings and deficits in our faith
Looking to find fault to present it before the Lord
Who is this maniac who never seems to rest?
Who wants to shame us?
To bring up the terrible people we really are?
Who is this?
He oftentimes recruits willing humans to join with him,
like Job’s comforters (Job 16:1-3)
The Accuser went before the throne regarding Job,
taunting and accusing,
pointing out what Job did not do right
Even though Job did almost everything right
There were faults with him as there are with all of us
“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.” Job 1:6-12
If you know the story of Job, his life was then turned upside down. He suffered greatly and learned much. He was squeezed beyond what it seems a human could endure, yet he remained faithful.
“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” Job 13:15
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” Philippians 3:10
Ouch and let us learn to seek the comfort of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter that You sent to us as You promised.
“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.” John 15:26
Yes, Lord, Comfort us by the Truth. The Accuser is a liar. You have washed our sins in Your own blood. (1 John 1:7) You have reached out to us in Your perfect love and are gracious to us, to teach us, to guide us and to walk with us as we travel through this world. May we not focus on The Accuser and his helpers, who sometimes may even be those closest to us, but let us focus on Your love for us and please remind us that You look on our hearts. (1 Samuel 16:7)
