The man who brought me the gospel was a real bible thumper.
Sometimes other people call you what you are.
They see you and they hear you.
Being a Bible Thumper is nothing to be ashamed of.
He had a suit on, carried a big bible and shared the gospel.
His voice bellowed. He did not care who heard him.
He had an important message to share and he shared it.
It was the gospel of Jesus Christ, what Jesus had done for all mankind.
I wanted that, what that guy had. He knew God and I didn’t.
I was 6.
I still didn’t fully understand, but I was trying.
He was happy and he was unashamed and bold.
We were in a Barber Shop.
The old time Barber Shops were like the water coolers of today.
Men were reading the newspapers, talking about things that had happened,
talking about their lives and just talking about life.
The Bible Thumper opened the bible told me and showed me John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
He asked me if I wanted to ask Jesus into my heart and I said I did.
I said the sinner’s prayer right then and there in that Barber Shop
where the men who came in saw the whole thing.
Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess Me before men,
him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
But he that denieth Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Luke 12:8-9
I confessed Him. My brother denied Him.
I still confess Him to this day and my brother still denies Him.
There was a man on social media today
who called a girl standing up for Christ a Bible Thumper.
It is an affectionate term to me.
The Barber who told me about him had a slight tone of mockery in his voice as well.
I know that Bible Thumper has a glorious honor in Heaven.
He was a soul winner, snatching people from the pits of Hell. He was doing his part.
Come to think of it, John the Baptist was a Bible Thumper, as was Jesus
and all the disciples and the witnesses
and the Major Prophets and the Minor Prophets
and all those who believed God’s word and revered it all the way through history.
It’s quite an admirable title.
God’s word never comes back void.
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud,
that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth:
it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please,
and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:8-11
We might mess it up, but God’s word is powerful.
He is the One who causes it to spring forth and bud and grow. He prospers it.
If that man’s motives were right, he has a grand place in Heaven.
He will be there welcoming all the new residents.
He will still be sharing the love of Christ and the power of God’s word.
God’s word is forever.
I am very thankful for him using his talents and obedience to the Lord.
I am certain all the Bible Thumpers will be honored greatly by our Lord Jesus Christ.
