Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness,
and receive with meekness the engrafted word,
which is able to save your souls. James 1:21
The parable of the sower tells us,
if the word falls on ground that does not receive it, it will not last.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil,
and taketh away the word out of their hearts,
lest they should believe and be saved.
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy;
and these have no root, which for a while believe,
and in time of temptation fall away.
And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard,
go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life,
and bring no fruit to perfection.
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
Luke 8:11-15
Unless your heart absorbs the word of God, like a seed,
engrafted, implanted, it will not mean much, if anything, to you.
This here is a warning and the truth.
This thought echoes through the bible:
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:6
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the Lord, I will put My law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts; and will be their God,
and they shall be My people. Jeremiah 31:33
The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. Psalm 37:31
Accepting the word of God as it is of God, keeping it elevated,
of utmost importance, is the way we can allow it to be a part of us.
Rejecting God’s word is rejecting God Himself.
People nowadays try to find a way to make God’s word fit into the world.
God does not change.
He is everlasting, always the same.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
