In the 80s, it was called: Name it, Claim it. It’s still used today in the church.
This is a very common thought process that some Christians have.
They believe God gives us His power. While He does operate through us, He is not separated from His power. He is the vine, we are the branches. We are not off on our own with a dose of God’s power. We are not separated from Him. Neither can we do Jesus’ work without Him. He is all encompassing.
We do nothing for God without God. God does not give us His power apart from Himself, contrary to some teachings. Why a follower of Christ would want to have God’s power separate from Jesus is beyond me, but that is what some believe.
One teaching is that we control God’s power by the things we do. That is not the case. We are always at God’s mercy and grace. We don’t own God’s power and we should never run ahead of God. When the kings did that, they failed.
There are people walking around on the Earth, like Lucifer, who want to be worshiped. Some are amongst those of us who worship Christ Jesus. Beware, we may not have a full view of what is happening until Jesus’ return.
Part of the deception will be, like the Serpent said in the garden: ‘You will be like gods, knowing good and evil’. Satan wants to entice any of us to believe that we hold God’s power apart from God. Don’t run ahead of God without God.
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened,
and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Genesis 3:5
Likely, we will continue to be enticed and in danger of deception. This scripture that Jesus spoke to His disciples is just as fitting for us today:
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing,
but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41
