After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13
Give us this day our daily bread
People think of food.
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink?
or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:)
for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:31-33
This line is much more than food.
It is spiritual as well.
The manna from Heaven fell to feed the Israelites while they were in the wilderness.
So many references in the word about how important it is for our spirits need to be nurtured and fed.
We can see the importance of fasting, that is, of denying oneself in honor of the Lord.
Jesus gave the Israelites a fast so they would look to Him:
And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna,
which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know;
that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only,
but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. Deuteronomy 8:3
Jesus is the Bread of Life.
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life:
he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst. John 6:35
So, Jesus is the Bread of Life and we are to be fed with bread daily.
Let us not forget the importance of our spiritual well-being.
For the bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. John 6:33
Jesus spoke of His body and blood to be remembered at communion.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven:
if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever:
and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. John 6:51
There were many who had been following Jesus who left Him when He talked about communion.
They did not ask Him to help them understand, they just got offended and quit following Him.
The following scripture refers to Jesus being the One that joins us all together.
It is imperative that we partake of Him and let Him dwell in us and feed our spirits
in order to be healthy in a spiritual sense.
That spiritual nourishment along with humility enables us to follow Him fully and completely
and to allow His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.
For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
1 Corinthians 10:17
