After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13
Thy Kingdom Come
The Heavenly Kingdom has come. It is here now.
Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Luke 17:21
This is where the idea of the foolishness of the gospel comes into play.
The people in the world think it’s ludicrous.
They do not have the mind of Christ.
The world does not get it.
This happened when Jesus walked on the Earth.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if My kingdom were of this world,
then would My servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews:
but now is My kingdom not from hence. John 18:36
Those who do not know Christ do not focus on the things of the Kingdom,
nor do they understand things of the Kingdom of God.
The Kingdom of God and the realm of Eternity is where our hearts and minds should be
Thy Kingdom Come is representative of Christ ruling in your life.
Spreading the Gospel of Christ is representative of
sharing Who is really the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Setting things right now.
Letting you know Jesus, making Jesus your Lord, making a way for you to fellowship with the Father.
Thy Will Be Done
This is a hard one.
It sounds easy. It’s not.
This is learning how to submit your will, your fleshly desires to God’s will.
Some people think of God like a vending machine.
You say the prayer and He gives you what you want.
It doesn’t work like that.
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37:4
Our desires should always be submitted to God.
We don’t know what is good for us, He does.
It’s a medley of beauty intertwined with Jesus.
It begins by following Jesus, then by submitting our will to His,
then allowing Him to always have His way.
He will sometimes answer prayers of our lusts to help us to learn
or even to give us what we want for the sake of letting us indulge.
He did this with the Israelites a few times.
One such time was when they wanted meat.
They were not content with what God had given them.
God had given them freedom from oppression and slavery and they wanted to go back.
And say thou unto the people,
Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord,
saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the Lord will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you:
because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before Him, saying,
Why came we forth out of Egypt? Numbers 11:18-20
It’s not easy to let go of the fleshly desires of the world, whatever they may be.
Desiring to let God have His way, that His will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven is extremely difficult.
We haven’t even touched on the greater thought of this part of the Lord’s prayer.
His desire is for each and every person to be in His kingdom and has made a way if they choose Jesus.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Yes, Lord, Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be Done in Earth as it is in Heaven.
