Psalm 91
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. v1
The Secret Place, a place away that is hidden from others,
where you trust in God,
a place in God where you know Him
and He knows you
where your relationship has grown and blossomed
and become a real relationship
with Him as your God
and maybe other attributes
Not an earthly place
Under His shadow
If we are under His covering,
we are safe from the enemy,
Again, this is not an earthly shadow,
but can and often does have natural implications
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness,
and hidden riches of secret places,
that thou mayest know that I, the Lord,
which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. Isaiah 45:3
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion:
in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;
he shall set me up upon a rock. Psalm 27:5
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence
from the pride of man:
thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion
from the strife of tongues. Psalm 31:20
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust. v2
Knowing that He is your safe place
A fortress is a barricade,
a place built up so they enemy cannot attack
Trust
Confidence
Security in God
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses:
but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also. Luke 12:34
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
and from the noisome pestilence. v3
If you notice, God always protected people until it was their time
Jesus escaped the crowd because it was not yet His time
He told Pilate, ‘You would have no power over me
if it were not given to you from above…’ John 19:11
We know that some of His people
will be delivered up and killed for His name Matthew 24:9
but this will not happen until it is their/our time
Until then, He will protect us
He shall cover thee with his feathers,
and under his wings shalt thou trust:
his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. v4
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2
The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus
is higher than the law of sin and death
As long as we are under the law of spirit of life in Christ Jesus,
we are not under the law of sin and death
Keep yourself free from sin
and from being influenced by the law of sin and death,
unforgiveness, hatred, other areas of sin that are under the law of sin and death
The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus is like an umbrella
Stay under it
The shield and buckler is similar to the armor of God in Ephesians 6
A reminder, this is not physical armor we put on as some teach,
This is being prepared and covered by the ways Ephesians 6 teaches
Being in the word,
with truth,
righteousness,
knowing the gospel of peace,
faith
What is the Full Armor of God?
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;
nor for the arrow that flieth by day; v5
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;
nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. v6
The night used in the passage suggests the attacks
might happen when we least expect them
When we trust in God, our faith is in Him,
not in whether or not we can see the enemy approaching
That goes along with keeping our lamps filled with oil Matthew 25:1-13
Keeping us prepared in Him
and filled with His Holy Spirit so that we can rest in His love, free from fear
The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive;
and he shall be blessed upon the earth:
and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. Psalm 41:2
A thousand shall fall at thy side,
and ten thousand at thy right hand;
but it shall not come nigh thee. v7
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold
and see the reward of the wicked. v8
The Lord protected His people
and fought for them
or allowed circumstances to be such
that they were protected numerous times in the bible
The angel of the Lord encampeth
round about them that fear him,
and delivereth them. Psalm 34:7
And Moses said unto the people,
Fear ye not, stand still,
and see the salvation of the Lord,
which he will shew to you to day:
for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day,
ye shall see them again no more for ever.
The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Exodus 14:13-14
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy habitation; v9
If we trust in God and not in our earthly defenses
not to say we shouldn’t be wise
Seeking His wisdom is also a part of trusting in Him,
we will see Jesus fight on our behalf
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble;
thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Psalm 32:7
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:
he shall preserve thy soul. Psalm 121:7
There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. v10
For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
to keep thee in all thy ways. v11
They shall bear thee up in their hands,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. v12
We know Jesus said He could call on His father to
send twelve legions of angels Matthew 26:53
Are they not all ministering spirits,
sent forth to minister for them
who shall be heirs of salvation? Hebrews 1:14
And of the angels he saith,
Who maketh his angels spirits,
and his ministers a flame of fire. Hebrews 1:7
It always comes to mind when Elijah saw the many angels
whom the Lord sent to protect him
And Elisha prayed, and said,
Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.
And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man;
and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full
of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
2 Kings 6:17
Or this angel:
And it came to pass on a certain night
that the angel of the Lord went out,
and killed in the camp of the Assyrians
one hundred and eighty-five thousand;
and when people arose early in the morning,
there were the corpses—all dead. 2 Kings 19:35
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:
the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. v13
Another way to consider this is God is much more powerful
than any wickedness,
so in the event that wickedness comes near,
we have the Holy Spirit who helps us overcome evil with good
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on
serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy:
and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. v14
For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you,
to do them, to love the Lord your God,
to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
Then will the Lord drive out all these nations from before you,
and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours:
from the wilderness and Lebanon,
from the river, the river Euphrates,
even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
There shall no man be able to stand before you:
for the Lord your God shall lay the fear of you
and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon,
as he hath said unto you. Deuteronomy 11:22-25
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. v15
We know from times past, from what God has already done for us
that we can count on Him,
that when we call out to Him,
He will answer
And I knew that thou hearest me always:
but because of the people which stand by I said it,
that they may believe that thou hast sent me. John 11:42
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. v16
