Note Before Reading: This is commentary of one person. Think of it more as a bible study where each person might see something that someone else didn’t see. God’s word is multifaceted and alive. We will be learning about Jesus, from His Word, through all Eternity. This is just a peek, a few gems, there are many more. I pray that each of you can draw from the well of the Lord’s word, be fed your daily bread and that this might serve as salt to flavor some things you may not have noticed before. Let the Holy Spirit lead you and guide you into all truth.
This section is all about worrying or about not worrying, it’s about trusting God.
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat,
or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.
Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? v25
Concentrating on the things that we need are so meaningless. God provides.
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap,
nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they? v26
Once we have chosen to follow Jesus, we have placed our lives in His hands.
He will care for each of us and knows what we need. When we’re trying to figure things out, it is futile because, if we follow Jesus, He will direct us and guide us and provide for us. It is when we do things our own way or follow after things that are not of Him that we get ourselves into bad circumstances.
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? v27
People tell us we shouldn’t worry or that Do not worry or do not fear is written in the bible many times. That is nice to know. What we really need is to connect with God on this issue. Somehow to let Him teach you so that it gets way down deep, where you realize He will take care of things and how to let go and not worry any longer, but to be patient and expect His word to be fulfilled. The not worrying is not something we can just stop doing on our own. While this admonision seems so simple and we can feel guilt for fearing or worrying,
Jesus wants us to truly be able to put things in His hands, to trust Him.
This can be a process and a learning experience from His faithfulness to others in His word or from times we have seen Him perform His word in the past. It is between each of us and Jesus that we get there not just by wishing we wouldn’t fear or worry but by His careful consideration toward us and realizing that He does love us and care for us and will respond to our concerns.
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: v28
And yet I say unto you,
That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. v29
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is,
and to morrow is cast into the oven,
shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? v30
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? v31
If we were to survey the bible and all the different ways God provided for His people, we would see the provision and how very different it was from one person to another.
He gave the Egyptians Manna, Angels’ food see Exodus 16
Joseph stored food supplies and saved his family and many others Genesis 41
Elijah was fed by ravens in the morning and at night 1 Kings 17
Elisha filled the widow’s vessels with oil, which sustained her in famine 2 Kings 4
Jesus fed the crowds by blessing the food and it multiplying The Gospels
Over and over, God provided and came through
For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:
for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. v32
Everybody on Earth needs to eat and has other needs. God knows. He is aware.
Here is the answer:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you. v33
Take therefore no thought for the morrow:
for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. v34
Do not borrow trouble. Take care of the needs of today and whatever He is asking you to do today (that could be preparing) and do not be concerned about the next day. There will be much to do the next day as well. Keep your eyes on Jesus, for surely, He is watching over you. Rest in that as much as you are able and ask Him to increase your ability to do so.
