Note Before Reading: This is commentary of one person. Think of it more as a bible study where each person might see something that someone else didn’t see. God’s word is multifaceted and alive. We will be learning about Jesus, from His Word, through all Eternity. This is just a peek, a few gems, there are many more. I pray that each of you can draw from the well of the Lord’s word, be fed your daily bread and that this might serve as salt to flavor some things you may not have noticed before. Let the Holy Spirit lead you and guide you into all truth.
Judge not, that ye be not judged. v1
Just remember Who the Judge is. Especially remember that we have no right to judge others to Hell or to Heaven. That right belongs to God. God forbid we judge others in that ultimate position that is not ours to begin with. Judging by our own standards is not going to be good for us as it elevates us to a position that we ought not to have.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged:
and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. v2
Whatever you extend to others, it shall be for you as well. No grace? You will receive less grace, maybe no grace, depending on how God decides.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye,
but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? v3
It’s so easy to see others’ faults.
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother,
Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye;
and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? v4
Not so easy to see your own faults.
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;
and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. v5
Deal with your own faults. After that, after you have humbled yourself before the Lord, after you have worked with much effort before the Lord to put your flesh to death, maybe then, you will see clearly to help others with compassion and grace and love and mercy.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. v6
Sharing your heart, especially the things of the Lord, the precious things of your deep treasures that the Lord has given you, the specialness of your relationship with God, those precious and cherished experiences between you and Jesus, with those in the world or even those Christians who might not understand.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock,
and it shall be opened unto you: v7
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. see James 4:8
When thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto Thee,
Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Psalm 27:8
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth;
and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. v8
If you’re looking for God, if your heart is tender toward Him, if you have any desire to find Him, you will. If you ask something of Him, He will respond.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread,
will he give him a stone? v9
If you ask God for something, He will give you what is good. It may not be exactly what you want but He will provide for you what is good in His sight.
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? v10
Jesus will not give you something bad or evil if you ask good of Him.
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children,
how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? v11
Here Jesus likens us as children who can ask of our Heavenly Father just as our children may ask things of us and reminds us that the relationship is similar and His love for us is so much greater than our love for our children.
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you,
do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. v12
Jesus wants us to treat others like we like to be treated.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this;
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Galatians 5:14
