I heard a lady speak of the sins of David with great disdain.
She considered him a fallen man, not worthy of honor.
There were things that David did that displeased the Lord.
God forgave him.
Instead of that lady focusing on what David did wrong,
focusing on God’s mercy and grace would have honored the Lord.
David is not be honored in and of himself. However, the work God did in him is worthy of honor.
Jesus Christ Himself came from the loins of King David. God considered David a man after His own heart.
And when He had removed him, He raised up unto them David to be their king;
to whom also He gave testimony, and said,
I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfil all My will.
Of this man’s seed hath God according to His promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus: Acts 13:22-23
God’s mercy is hard to fathom. It might even be harder to understand and relate to than forgiveness. While mercy can be a part of forgiveness, it is much more compassionate than forgiveness. Mercy covers.
Mercy goes above and beyond. Mercy is the fulfillment of God’s love.
For He saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Romans 9:15
Jesus does have compassion on His Children. He loves us and He corrects us.
He encourages us to be like Him. We cannot do that on our own and God knows that, too.
He is faithful and while we should not excuse our sin, we should accept God’s forgiveness and mercy. And, then in turn, extend it to others.
Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7
