The Law was written and given to men as a guideline.
God wanted us to know right from wrong.
The extensiveness of the law in the Old Testament crosses over to the New Testament.
Jesus said, I came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.
Is the law open for interpretation?
That is between each one and God.
Which one of the Ten Commandments is not valid today?
Not one. They are all valid today.
Some get very rigid about the Sabbath Day.
Is it Saturday or Sunday? Does it matter? Is there freedom in the day?
Some say yes, others say it doesn’t matter.
Does God care?
How can we be sure we are obeying God and His word?
When Peter saw the vision of the animals in the dream.
That message was not just for eating. That was for everything.
And the voice spake unto him again the second time,
What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. Acts 10:15
Especially when speaking of the Gentiles, do not consider them unprofitable.
The Ten Commandments
And God spake all these words, saying,
I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage.
Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,
or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:
for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me,
and keep My commandments.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain;
for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God:
in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter,
thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle,
nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day,
and hallowed it.
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house,
thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant,
nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. Exodus 20:1-17
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
The Two Greatest Commandments
And Jesus answered him,
The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord:
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:
this is the first commandment.
And the second is like, namely this,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:29-31
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people,
but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:18
How do the Ten Commandments and the Two Greatest Commandments compare?
They both reflect the desire of God for humankind to obey Him and follow His ways.
It’s not confusing. If we love Him, we will follow His commandments.
If ye love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15
