Jesus said, When you pray, pray like this…
I consider the Lord’s Prayer the perfect prayer.
People try to get around it, saying,
well, Jesus didn’t really mean for us to pray that way exactly.
The Lord’s Prayer has all the elements that we should be focusing on.
Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow
for tomorrow will take care of itself.
The fact of the matter is that its value is insurmountable.
The Lord’s Prayer is God’s word and God’s word never comes back void.
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth:
it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen. Matthew 6:9-13
Line by line:
Our Father, who art in Heaven
Remembering who God is,
where He is and that He is elevated above all creation,
that He Himself has created.
Hallowed be Thy name
God is Holy and if you are speaking to Him and praying to Him,
don’t forget that. He is the Mighty, the Awesome and the Terrible God.
Thy Kingdom come
You are calling God’s kingdom to earth in all His Fullness and Glory.
Thy will be done
Like Jesus prayed, Not My will but Thine be done. His ways are not our ways.
His ways are higher than our ways. By submitting our desires to Him and our prayers to be sent up in faith, we will see His perfect will be done.
In earth as it is in heaven
Let the earth and everyone contained therein be obedient to You,
Most High God. Have Your way.
Give us this day our daily bread
Provide for us as you know what we need for our flesh,
as well as our daily bread of the Word of God that nourishes our souls.
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
OR forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
This is vital.
Jesus told us if someone has ought against us,
to reconcile with them before we come to the altar
The very next two scriptures in Matthew 6:14-15
directly after the Lord’s prayer say:
For if ye forgive men their trespasses,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you: v14
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. v15
No getting around that. If you do not forgive, you will not be forgiven
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
Yes. Keep us from temptation and deliver us from evil
sounds simple enough but it is filled with all sorts of snares
that only God sees and can deliver us from.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever and ever
In other words, You, Lord Jesus Christ are strong enough
and powerful enough to take care of us,
to do all these things as we humble ourselves and pray to You,
knowing you hear us
and knowing you see our every request and every petition.
Amen, so be it!
Since the Word of God is alive and multi- faceted, it is my hope that each of you, as you have read this, will gain insight from the Holy Spirit on the value of The Lord’s Prayer.
Pray it when you don’t know what else to pray.
Pray it when you know the Lord has already heard the cry of your heart.
Believe what it teaches you.
Follow its admonitions.
Place His Word above your own thoughts.
This is not the only way to pray, but it is a very good way
and we should keep it on our lips and hearts as we pray.
We can never go wrong by praying the Word of God.
Scriptural References:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink,
neither be ye of doubtful mind.
For all these things do the nations of the world seek after:
and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God;
and all these things shall be added unto you.
Luke 12:29-3
1I am that bread of life. John 6:48
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way;
first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matthew 5:24
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful,
who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape,
that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
