Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world,
why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
(Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;)
after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility,
and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh. Colossians 2:20-23
Greek, literal translation of verse 23
Such [restrictions] indeed have an appearance of wisdom
with [their] self-prescribed worship, [their false] humility,
and [their] harsh treatment of [the] body; [but] they are of no value against [the] indulgence of the flesh
Those persons that we have running around the church
with their rules are of no value or effect and are Pharisees
Our allegiance belongs to the Lord, we never are to serve men’s rules
Surely Jesus has given us commands and we are to follow them,
but they are to Him that we answer,
not to others’ interpretations of His commands
Some may be right, some may be wrong,
but we are all able to hear straight from the mouth and heart of God,
we do not need intermediaries
Some teaching is good
Some teachers are good and help us to understand
or give their take on scriptures,
that does not negate our responsibility to find the truth,
to search for the truth
One pastor said to me, there are 5 church leaders
that scrutinize my sermons before I preach them
That does not mean they are pure and focused on the truth
It means they are weighing the words this preacher will use
against their interpretations of scripture and by using their church’s doctrine
That can be error as the doctrine is the matrix that determines
what is preached and taught in their church
Lessons from above, from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Truth,
The Author and Giver of Life
And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead;
whereof we are witnesses. Acts 3:15
Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone, the foundation of truth that is laid
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
There are no rules on how to follow God
We are each unique
Each person is responsible to learn and read the word of God
and to seek God and then follow Jesus with their whole heart
None of the rules that other people try to make you follow are beneficial
They can be binding and can hinder your walk with God
The major takeaway is that we are to follow the bible,
obey God’s commands
and to serve the Lord with the fear and wisdom of His word
There are no human rules that we should adhere to
The teachings in scriptures are our guidelines and we answer to Jesus
