A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it,
but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And He left them, and departed. Matthew 16:4
What is the sign of Jonah the Prophet?
But He answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign;
and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly;
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation,
and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas;
and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. Matthew 12:39-41
The sign of Jonah the Prophet was that he represented Christ in His mercy for the lost. He is forever reaching out to those He created for His glory, for those He created for His fellowship and to reflect His light. God made Himself clear. The sign was that the people repented at Jonah’s preaching and thus they responded to God and turned toward Him instead of staying in their folly. Jesus said, “A greater than Jonah is here.” In effect, He said: And you cannot see Who I Am, though I am standing right in front of you, you are mocking and not repenting because you think you are exalted in your self-righteousness and you have missed the message.
Jesus also said to this bunch as they continued to reject Him:
Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of His mighty works were done,
because they repented not:
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you,
had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell:
for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom,
it would have remained until this day.
But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment,
than for thee. Matthew 11:20-24
Sodom had hailstones of fire rained upon them and Tyre sank to the bottom of the sea.
The Holy Spirit bears witness of Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life, that He is God in the flesh.
Loving the Truth is the realization that Jesus is the Son of God sent to give His life as a ransom for many. Not all will receive Him. Not all will believe His words, but woe unto those who walk on this Earth when the power of His Holy Spirit is so strong and we have access to each and every word God ever spoke, including when He was walking on the Earth. I and My Father are one. John 10:30
The time is almost here.
The signs of the times are that we live amongst that wicked and perverse generation foretold of long ago.
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Jude 1:21
