Tongue of Life, Part 2/2

If the power of Life and Death are in the tongue,
let me be in the habit of speaking life, Lord Jesus
Habits are sometimes very bad
We get used to them because those around us may accept them
They may even be a way we communicate that does not glorify You
So difficult at times to distinguish
We shall give an account to every idle word spoken
There is no way to take them back
unless we confess them as sin and get them cleansed
Easier not to speak them in the first place
That means we have to be able to control what we say
Not an easy task
While you give us strength to do so,
that which is in our heart still seems to seep out
Speak Life as Toby Mac sings (TobyMac – Speak Life)
Remember at the battle of Jericho?
Joshua told them to not to say a word until the walls came down.
He knew they would not speak life
that they would murmur and even destroy their own faith,
so he told them to hold their tongues
It worked
Speaking life has to be intentional
It has to be a focus, a mission, and at its best, to be a mission for God
for anything we do for the glory of God, He will repay us and help us
What a beautiful thing it is if we use our tongue
to bless others or encourage others
That is God’s best for us, to use our tongues, our words for His Glory
The more His word becomes a part of you,
the more you meditate on His precepts,
the more apt you will be to speak His word,
bringing life to yourself and those who hear it will be blessed
You also encourage us to speak warnings to others, Lord God
Let us be wise and obedient to whatever it is You are asking us to speak
