Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
James 4:8
What happens when you draw near to God?
You realize Who God is
His power, His might, His Holiness
Your fear of God increases
Your knowledge of the Truth expands
You become less important in your own eyes, more humble
Your sin is revealed
Your need for a Savior is more clear
Your realization of His cleansing blood is more important
You understand that you are finite, that Jesus is infinite
Your understanding of His word is increased
Your knowledge of His profound excellence is realized
If we only go to God when we need or want something,
that is an insult to Him
If we draw near to God because He is Lord of Heaven and Earth,
if we desire to spend time with Him because we realize the treasure He is, we are honoring Him
We might even comprehend why He made us,
that His desire is to commune with us, for us to know Him in a richer way
He already knows us because He is our Creator
He knows every fiber of our being
His Holy Spirit reaches out to us
Let us respond to Him and draw near to God,
and cleanse our hands and purify our hearts before Him,
that we may dwell in His presence by receiving His grace and forgiveness
When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto Thee,
Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Psalm 27:8
