Who’s Who?
Who we think are somebodys
and who God thinks are somebodys might be entirely different
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5
Many times, God’s people are nobodys in the world’s eyes
They aren’t special to others, not any more than anyone else
Some pastors like to make themselves out to be somebody
But they might not be somebody in God’s sight
God looks to the humble, He resists the proud
God looks to those who tremble at His word
He looks to those who lift Him up, who help draw others to Him,
those who pray in secret and no one sees, or knows except God
They will receive their great reward from our Father
Jesus does not want us to honor worldly people for their worldly position
He wants us to love and care for all, even those who do not deserve it
God does not want us to treat those with respect over others
because they have great fortunes according to the world
But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need,
and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him,
how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1 John 3:17
God commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves
That has to be a choice on our part
It might not come naturally
God will open our hearts if we allow Him to do so
But the Lord said unto Samuel,
Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature;
because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth;
for man looketh on the outward appearance,
but the Lord looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7
God is not impressed with what we have or the position we hold in the world
David was a young lad, not yet mature, a shepherd
That was what the people saw when they looked at David,
even his father and his brothers
They did not consider David of any importance
The prophet Samuel had to ask, Do you have any more sons?
but God looked on David’s heart and gave him great position in Israel,
elevating him and giving him great authority and placement
So, Who’s Who?
We might not know
Be careful who you elevate and who you abase
God honors the widows and the orphans
He is not into what the world considers worthy
God has His own ideas and looks at people from a different perspective
We may not know Who’s Who until the very end
So treat everyone as though they are somebody
Let us not be fooled by their outward appearance
Let’s be like the Good Samaritan
Let’s be like these ones to whom Jesus will say on the last day:
Then shall they also answer Him, saying,
Lord, when saw we Thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked,
or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto Thee?
Then shall He answer them, saying,
Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to Me.
Matthew 25:44-45
Scriptural References:
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet,
and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret;
and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:6
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin,
and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
James 2:8-9
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,
To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction,
and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
James 1:27
