When I was a kid, my brother said that to me, seems like a lot:
You think you’re so big!
That was his way of saying, You’re not the boss of me
The ugly pride that fills our minds… and hearts
People tried to be the boss of Jesus when He walked on the Earth
They even went so far as to kill Him to try to shut Him up
Satan was in the mix on that, try as he may, not knowing that was impossible
We still have people trying to be God or on an even smaller measure,
trying to control things in our lives or surrounding our lives
We shall worship the Lord and Him only shall we serve
And Jesus answered and said unto him,
Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written,
Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Luke 4:8
Serving others and following instructions in the world, such as with a boss,
are part of our duties unless it conflicts with
what we know in the Word of God
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh;
not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Colossians 3:22-23
This goes along with the scriptures where Jesus said,
If you do this unto the least of these, you have done it unto Me
and
The greatest among you, let him be your servant
The disciples thought they were great
Then there arose a reasoning among them,
which of them should be greatest.
And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child,
and set him by Him, And said unto them,
Whosoever shall receive this child in My name receiveth Me:
and whosoever shall receive Me receiveth him that sent Me:
for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. Luke 9:46-48
Jesus tells us who will be greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven
and who will be least:
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments,
and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them,
the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19
Greatness with God always involves humility before Him
The disciples tried to do things in their own strength
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. Matthew 25:35
So said all the disciples
And we know they all left Him when the going got tough
That situation is a reminder that we can do nothing on our own,
that is, nothing that counts for God, nothing that will last forever,
or that will be recognized by Him
I am the vine, ye are the branches:
He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without Me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
We are only the branches, we have no power or authority or spiritual ability
without God’s Holy Spirit
None of us are big, but we are important to God
Scriptural References:
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me.
Matthew 25:40
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
Matthew 23:11
