Jesus told the disciples what would happen when He died.
He knew they would be disappointed when the Roman soldiers took Jesus to be crucified.
He also knew they would remember what He said after the event actually occurred.
Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things,
and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes,
and be slain, and be raised the third day. Luke 9:22
Jesus told us about His return.
Behold, I have told you before.
Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold,
he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west;
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened,
and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven,
and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:
and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn,
and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
And He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet,
and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Matthew 24:25-31
Not one word Jesus spoke was pointless or meaningless.
We can find in His word in many places the promise that He will return.
Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him:
and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Revelation 1:7
Scoffers and Mockers have said, They’ve been saying Jesus would return for centuries,
saying that we are in the Last Days since Jesus walked the Earth.
And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up;
and a cloud received Him out of their sight.“
And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as He went up,
behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said,
Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?
this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven,
shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven. Acts 1:9-11
Fantasy is at our fingertips, many stories and movies seem to be reality from the time we were young.
To realize that Jesus is the Truth is of great difficulty and can only be realized through the Holy Spirit.
Still, we have a warring in our inner man as well as those outside influences that can easily draw us in.
Our Savior will do as He said. He did so in the disciples’ time and He will come back as He promised.
Keep your eyes fixed on the Lord Jesus Christ, watching and waiting for His return.
Keeping your mind cleansed daily with His Word.
When the Roll is called up Yonder, I’ll be there.
For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
When the Roll is Called Up Yonder, James M. Black, 1893
1 When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound,
and time shall be no more,
and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather
over on the other shore,
and the roll is called up yonder,
I’ll be there.
Refrain:
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
2 On that bright and cloudless morning
when the dead in Christ shall rise,
and the glory of His resurrection share;
When His chosen ones shall gather
to their home beyond the skies,
And the roll is called up yonder,
I’ll be there. [Refrain]
3 Let us labor for the Master
from the dawn till setting sun;
let us talk of all His wondrous love and care.
Then when all of life is over,
and our work on earth is done,
and the roll is called up yonder,
I’ll be there. [Refrain]
