Have you ever gone before the throne of God and just listened?
Be still, and know that I am God:
I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10
Remember Mary? She sat at Jesus’ feet and both Jesus and Mary considered it time well spent.
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part,
which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42
Just be before Jesus. Seek His kingdom first.
Elijah was quiet, waiting for God to speak to him.
And He said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.
And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains,
and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind:
and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12
Being still before the Lord intentionally means you are open to hearing from the Lord.
In any relationship, if you talk all the time and don’t let the other person share what they want,
it is a one-sided relationship.
God has a lot to say. He won’t say it all at once. A relationship is continuous.
Sometimes, He has to cause events to happen so that we will listen, like in Elijah’s case.
Elijah was distraught. He was concerned.
God responded.
Taking time to listen to Jesus is an act of reverence before Him,
expecting that He will respond. That is pleasing to God.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey His voice,
and that thou mayest cleave unto Him: for He is thy life, and the length of thy days:
that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac,
and to Jacob, to give them. Deuteronomy 30:19-20
God communicated with His people even in the Old Testament, when they’d listen.
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say,
Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 1 Samuel 3:9
Find a set apart time in your day to spend with God, quietly, in His presence, listening.
Listening to God’s voice is an important part of our lives as we follow Him.
It’s so easy to get distracted by so many things.
Choose the good portion which shall not be taken away.
