Listening for God’s Voice

And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times,
Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
1 Samuel 3:10

Samuel did not know yet the voice of the Lord
He was the special son that had been given to Hanna who had no children
Hanna prayed unto the Lord and the Lord honored her request for a son
That child was promised to the Lord and as soon as he was weaned,
Hanna took him to Eli the priest and dedicated his life to the Lord
Samuel was faithful to the Lord all of his days

When Samuel was young, he had never known the voice of the Lord:
And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli.
And the word of the Lord was precious in those days;
there was no open vision.

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place,
and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord,
where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me.
And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
And the Lord called yet again, Samuel.
And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord,
neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
And the Lord called Samuel again the third time.
And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me.
And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be,
if he call thee, that thou shalt say,
Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth.
So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth

Speak, Lord, for thy servant is listening…

Jesus said that My sheep know My voice
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: John 10:27
He wants to commune with us
It takes spending time with Him, not just praying, but listening
Being sensitive to what He is saying
Ask the Lord to show you
what amount of time He would like you to dedicate to Him each day
Yes, each day
Rarely does God shout out to us
He teaches us
Sometimes you know what He is saying without Him saying a word
You know God has taught you something or shared something with you
Listen for He has many things to teach and share with each of us
He is near to those who call upon Him in truth

The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth
. Psalm 145:18

God is not limited by our unsurety or inhibitions or fears
Jesus wants to have direct communication with each of us
We are His children, after all,
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. John 15:14
He wants a relationship with us,
not just through our pastors or teachers or priests or any other human

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus; 1 Timothy 2:5
