For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,
is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1 John 2:16
The lust of the eyes got Eve, then Adam.
The lust of the eyes got King David.
The lust of the eyes got Solomon.
And then Samson.
Many more in between, before and after.
Lust was spoken of in the Ten Commandments.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife,
nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Exodus 20:17
Desiring something that belongs to someone else will lead to sin. Put it aside.
Remove it from your thoughts.
It can also mean you wish for the love they receive or the honor or their position.
Cast down those vain imaginations.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,
and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:5
For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory:
no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11
If you don’t get something you want, it either is not a good thing for you or it is for a later time.
Don’t lust with your eyes. That will lead you nowhere good.
