How to Recognize the Holy Spirit

The other day, I was studying about the Holy Spirit and felt God was pleased. It’s hard to explain, but I felt like I was to trying to learn about the Holy Spirit and He wanted me to learn more.

As always with me, I can’t feel a study is ever truly complete as no study in God’s word can ever be truly complete. There will always be more to learn. Just when we humans have come to conclusions and think we know everything, we learn there is more to learn. But let’s dive in and see what we can find…

You think the Holy Spirit was not here in the Old Testament? Think again:
“But they rebelled, and vexed his Holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his Holy Spirit within him?”
Isaiah 63:10&11

The same Holy Spirit that was with David when Samuel anointed him with oil.
“Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.” 1 Samuel 16:13

“Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

The Holy Spirit is Jesus, and God the three are One:
“This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” 1 John 5:6-8

They are in unison all the time, in agreement and bear witness of each other. They change not.

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13

Ask Him.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter:
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16&17

“He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.” 1 Thessalonians 4:8

So those that hate us, hate the Holy Spirit in us. That is not to say we are perfect and some is just a preference. Not liking you is one thing, but the true hatred could very well be spiritual.

God forbid that we should blaspheme His Holy Spirit.

“Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.”
Mark 3:28-30

“And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” Matthew 12:32

Please, continue searching for the treasure in God’s word and learning the work of His Holy Spirit. If you consider His work as you read, it will become more evident to you.
