Praying for our leaders is an exhortation in the Bible. Not just for our leaders, but for all.
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions,
and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority;
that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4
Our world is in tremendous turmoil.
We can think this or that and we might be right.
God still encourages us to pray for all.
There are two things that come to mind:
Our hearts remain pliable before the Lord as it is easy to become angry and frustrated with our leaders.
The second is that we are reminded that things are in God’s hands.
He can and does still work even in incredibly difficult situations.
There was an old time preachers who would pray for the world.
I used to wonder how he could have enough faith to pray for the whole world.
It’s a nice idea, but the whole world?
He would lay out a map of the world and lie on top of it and pray for the inhabitants of the world.
Keep your love warm, even for the wicked leaders. God can still use them for His purposes.
Loving our enemies, including unjust leaders, reminds us things are out of our hands
and there is nothing we can do about them anyway, except pray.
